LANSDALE — The PennSuburban Chamber of Commerce hopes to provide reduced electricity rates to its members.
To that end, the chamber has teamed up with County Electric’s Energy Solutions Group.
The group can help businesses offset the increases created by the deregulation of the electricity market, according to Greg O’Brien, vice president of the County Electric Supply, located at 1111 N. Broad St., Hatfield Township.
“The savings could be between 10 and 15 percent,” O’Brien said.
On Jan. 1 the expiration of rate generation caps — as determined by the Electric Choice Act of 1997 — is expected to add an additional 10 to 20 percent cost for all users in the PECO territory, according to O’Brien.
Two group partners — Glacial Energy and Henderson Energy Consulting LLC — were represented by former Philadelphia Flyer Dave Schultz and former Philadelphia 76ers guard Gerald Henderson, respectively, at the chamber headquarters in Lansdale.
Glacial Energy utilizes a streamlined business model with an advanced back office infrastructure to address the needs of its commercial and industrial customer base, chamber President Robert Zelnick said.
The company will negotiate competitive supply rates for any business that signs up for the service, according to O’Brien.
“Most business owners are very aware of the coming change,” said Schultz, a business development manger with Glacial Energy. “They have been inundated with phone calls. Most understand what I am saying when I talk about this.”
Glacial Energy — in business since 2005 — operates in all 15 states where electricity rates have been deregulated, according to Schultz.
“Every entity, and every person, should change their suppliers,” he said.
Henderson Energy Consulting — based in Blue Bell — provides energy consulting, financial feasibility studies, complete energy audits, curtailment services and demand response, turnkey project management and utility procurement strategies, according to its Web site.
