Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council Switches Electric Generation Supplier

The Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC), a non-profit governmental energy aggregator recently signed a nine year agreement with FirstEnergy Solutions to replace Gexa as the electric generation supplier. NOPEC is currently an energy aggregator in 126 communities throughout Northeast Ohio.

The agreement begins on January 1, 2011 so business owners must opt out prior to that date or they will continue with NOPEC. The next opt out period is in three years and if they switch to a competitive supplier prior to the next period the business will incur a fine ranging from $50 to $300.

If a business opts out prior to January 1st and contracts with a retail electric suppliers such as Glacial Energy, they will incur no cancelation fee. Glacial Energy is a licensed Competitive Retail Electric Supplier in Ohio offering unique month-to-month agreements and indexed based pricing.   While the NOPEC program with FirstEnergy Solutions is expected to generate savings for their customers of 4%, a commercial business switching to Glacial Energy can expect to see increased savings of up to 15%.
