PennSuburban Chamber of Commerce Offers Members Discount Electric

LANSDALE — The PennSuburban Chamber of Commerce hopes to provide reduced electricity rates to its members.

To that end, the chamber has teamed up with County Electric’s Energy Solutions Group.

The group can help businesses offset the increases created by the deregulation of the electricity market, according to Greg O’Brien, vice president of the County Electric Supply, located at 1111 N. Broad St., Hatfield Township.

“The savings could be between 10 and 15 percent,” O’Brien said.

On Jan. 1 the expiration of rate generation caps — as determined by the Electric Choice Act of 1997 — is expected to add an additional 10 to 20 percent cost for all users in the PECO territory, according to O’Brien.

Two group partners — Glacial Energy and Henderson Energy Consulting LLC — were represented by former Philadelphia Flyer Dave Schultz and former Philadelphia 76ers guard Gerald Henderson, respectively, at the chamber headquarters in Lansdale.

Glacial Energy utilizes a streamlined business model with an advanced back office infrastructure to address the needs of its commercial and industrial customer base, chamber President Robert Zelnick said.

The company will negotiate competitive supply rates for any business that signs up for the service, according to O’Brien.

“Most business owners are very aware of the coming change,” said Schultz, a business development manger with Glacial Energy. “They have been inundated with phone calls. Most understand what I am saying when I talk about this.”

Glacial Energy — in business since 2005 — operates in all 15 states where electricity rates have been deregulated, according to Schultz.

“Every entity, and every person, should change their suppliers,” he said.

Henderson Energy Consulting — based in Blue Bell — provides energy consulting, financial feasibility studies, complete energy audits, curtailment services and demand response, turnkey project management and utility procurement strategies, according to its Web site.

Village Trustees Approve Agreement with Glacial Energy To Purchase Electricity For Village

Village trustees approved entering into an agreement with Glacial Energy of Elmhurst to purchase electricity for village use.

Trustees heard a presentation Thursday from Roger Dillon with Glacial Energy. Dillon explained that the village currently has 17 different meters at different village locations.

According to Dillon, Glacial Energy buys electricity daily on the open market and then sells it to municipalities and businesses.

The village buys electricity from Ameren Illinois. Dillon said the village would save a minimum of $6,200 a year by buying from Glacial Energy and the savings could be more if Ameren Illinois raises its rates.

The agreement with Glacial Energy can be terminated with a 30-day notice by either party.

Glacial Energy BDM and NHL Flyers Legend, Dave Schultz, Wants To Become U.S. Citizen

Broad Street Bully. Enforcer. The Hammer. Dave Schultz has been called many things, but never a U.S. citizen. After nearly 40 years in the United States, Schultz, 60, will soon begin the journey toward citizenship.  And, he says, so will fellow Flyers alums Orest Kindrachuk, Bob Kelly and Bill Clement, now a Flyers broadcaster, all of whom Schultz says were encouraged to become citizens by U.S. Rep. Bob Brady, who is a pal of former Flyers defenseman Bob Dailey. A Flyers spokesman says that former Flyers assistant coach Jack McIlhargey is also starting the naturalization process. “We’re gonna get it done. They’re good people. They’re not terrorists. Although some of them were terrorists on the ice, said Brady, who performed Tuesday at the 20th annual Stu Bykofsky Candidates Comedy Night at Finnigan’s Wake (3rd & Spring Garden), where Schultz revealed his citizenship plans and said that since the United States and the Philadelphia area had always been so good to him he wanted to become an American. Schultz, a two-time Stanley Cup champion who still holds the record for most penalty minutes in a season (472), now works as a business development manager for Glacial Energy, in Voorhees. — Philadelphia Daily News
